Limited Edition Print - 150
Captured in that delicate moment between calm and chaos, when the last rays of sunlight touch the summit of Aoraki / Mount Cook and a gathering storm creps across the sky. The mountain stood illuminated in fleeting brilliance, defying the advancing darkness that threatened to swallow it whole. Timing was everything — a perfect intersection of light and dark, warmth and foreboding. The storm clouds rolled in with quiet intent while the valley below shimmered with the soft movement of water.
Using a short long exposure, the rushing stream transformed into a silky path, drawing the viewer’s eye toward the mountain’s snow-clad crown — a moment suspended between serenity and power, where nature revealed its breathtaking duality.

I hadn’t come to Mount Cook to photograph Mount Cook. Why would I? It’s the most photographed mountain in New Zealand - immortalised by people who actually know what they’re doing. I was here for everything but the postcard view, the quiet details everyone else walks past.
Then on day three, halfway back from Hooker Lake, I turned around - and there it was. Aoraki bathed in the last warmth of the sun, a storm rolling in from the side like a dark, deliberate curtain. I snapped an iPhone shot out of habit, glanced down, and froze. This wasn’t just beautiful - it was fleeting.
Cue the usual scramble: camera out, bag half unzipped, tripod legs catching in the rocks, heart pounding. The storm was advancing, the glow fading even faster. There was no time for bracketing or perfectionism - one frame, one breath, one chance.
And somehow, that was enough.
Location:
Mount Cook (Māori: Aoraki) standing 3,724 metres tall, Aoraki / Mount Cook is New Zealand’s highest peak - a majestic sentinel over the Hooker Valley. Flanked by glaciers and their waters, it dominates the Southern Alps with a rare mix of beauty and power. A symbol of endurance, its snow-clad summit captures the spirit of the alpine wilderness.
